POSITION: Senior Control Systems Engineer
REPORTING TO: Drive System Development Director

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Senior Control Systems Engineer will utilize extensive experience in control systems to design, analyze and optimize control systems for hybrid and electric powertrain systems. This is a position requiring both hands on direct performance and supervisory capabilities.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Implement control algorithms in embedded system controllers in accordance with applicable standards
  • Verify and validate code at SIL and HIL levels
  • Create and implement calibration and test plans
  • Embedded Control Systems Development: Follow standard software development practices for embedded control software development, including: requirements analysis, system design, architecture design, coding, integration testing, system testing, and acceptance testing
  • Create Software Requirements Specification documentation
  • Complete powertrain system-level FMEA
  • Create vehicle powertrain simulations for control system development and performance testing using AVL CRUISE and Matlab/Simulink
  • Create simulation test plans to characterize expected vehicle performance and for powertrain control system development & verification
  • Develop and implement powertrain supervisory control algorithms in the simulation environment
  • Create and execute calibration test plans to calibrate embedded code on physical system
  • Integrate pre-existing algorithms for vehicle control into new implementations in Simulink using MotoHawk toolchain
  • Execute simulation test plans and generate complete and concise reports and presentations of results

JOB REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Extensive experience in designing controls and performing calibrations on electric and hybrid-electric vehicles
  • Matlab and Simulink, Stateflow® and auto-code generation using Embedded Coder®, AVL Cruise
  • Experience with MCS Woodward (Mototron) toolchain desired (MotoTune, MotoHawk)
  • Direct experience developing specifications to optimize EV/HEV performance.
  • Strong knowledge and proficiency in CAN 2B communications and OBD II
  • Proficient with CANAlyzer, CANApe, J1939 communications. LIN, KWP-2000, UDS
  • Proficient in C/C++ and embedded systems
  • AUTOSAR compliant coding
  • Knowledge of remote diagnostics systems for vehicle applications
  • In depth knowledge of hybrid vehicle technologies, vehicle engineering, development and validation processes (APQP processes)
  • Thorough knowledge of TS 16949, ISO14001, ISO26262 and SPICE processes
  • Self-motivated and highly organized

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science Engineering
  • Highly Desired: Master’s Degree in Engineering
  • 5+ years of experience in control systems
  • 5 years of experience in engineering project leadership and management

TRAVEL:

  • Up to 20% travel for on-site customer support at various US and world locations

PHYSICAL JOB REQUIREMENTS:
The position is expected to have limited travel to visit current and potential suppliers and customers, both domestic and international. The position is expected to access, enter, and retrieve data by using a computer terminal. The position is expected to require hands-on management/use of laboratory test and production equipment. Some lifting of test equipment and battery modules will be required.
