Joerg Ferchau, CEO
Joerg is a highly accomplished technology executive and entrepreneur with over 30 years of progressive business and leadership experience including 15 years as CEO. His diverse background includes strategy and operations, sales and marketing, and product and technology development for Silicon Valley startups and Global Fortune 100 companies in a broad range of industries including automotive, information technology, network data security, nuclear energy, and military/aerospace. Joerg has acquired an extensive understanding and knowledge of multicultural business through his involvement in several successful business ventures across Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. Prior to EDI, Joerg served in leadership positions at SanDisk, Compaq, Atalla, Tandem and GE and also held CEO and advisory roles with Silicon Valley startup companies. He holds over 25 patents, has received numerous product design awards, and developed EDI’s business concept and operational plans.
Dr. Ta-lin Hsu, Chairman of H&Q Asia Pacific
Dr. Ta-lin Hsu, the Founder and current Chairman of H&Q Asia Pacific, a firm widely recognized as a pioneer of Asian venture capital and private equity, has been investing in Asia for over 30 years. Prior to founding H&Q Asia Pacific, Dr. Hsu joined Hambrecht & Quist Group in 1985 as a General Partner. Dr. Hsu’s extensive professional background also includes 12 years at IBM where he achieved corporate responsibility for all of IBM’s advanced research in mass storage systems and technology. Dr. Hsu is a founding member of the prestigious Technology Review Board and the Monte Jade Science & Technology organization and serves on the boards of various leading global corporations, including ASE Inc., Sinogen International Ltd., and One Inc. As a result of his vital involvement in various landmark transactions as well as in developing the Asian venture capital and private equity industry, Dr. Hsu has been publicly recognized by several distinguished organizations including BusinessWeek, Forbes magazine, and New Fortune Magazine. Dr. Hsu received his B.S. degree in physics from National Taiwan, his M.S. degree in electrophysics from the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn, and his Ph.D. in electrical engineering from the University of California at Berkeley.
Dr. Robert Shen, Managing Director of H&Q Asia Pacific
Dr. Robert Shen, a distinguished investment professional, brings over 30 years of high-technology industry experience. Currently Dr. Shen is the Managing Director of H&Q Asia Pacific Shanghai and is responsible for investments in the U.S. and Greater China. Prior to joining H&Q Asia Pacific, Dr. Shen served as the General Manager at VLSI, President of 8x8 Inc. (NASDAQ: EGHT), and the Chief Technical Officer and General Manager at Lucent Microel ectronics. In 1995, Dr. Shen founded Enable Semiconductor and three years later, spun off Enable's Mobile business to form NanoAmp Solutions and sold the rest of Enable to Lucent Technologies. Dr. Shen received a Bachelor of Science degree from National Cheng-Kung University, a Master of Science degree from Marquette University, and a Ph.D. from Southern Methodist University, all in Electrical Engineering and began his career path at Texas Instruments.
Laurie A. Miller, Board Secretary
Laurie has over 20 years of experience in broad legal counsel for emerging technology ventures in Silicon Valley, including financing, acquisition, licensing, securities, HR, and taxation. In her role as Corporate Counsel for EDI, Laurie oversees the company’s legal matters including VC financing, technology licensing, trademarks, employment, and stock option planning. She also serves as the Secretary on the board of directors. Laurie holds a JD from Santa Clara University, an LLM from Golden Gate University, an MBA from Colorado State, and her BS from Kansas State.
Dr. Andy Frank, CTO
Andy is a significant industry dignitary credited as being the "Inventor" of the modern day Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle. In his role as CTO, Andy oversees the company’s intellectual property strategy, actively working to extend the patent portfolio. Andy has spent over 30 years in breakthrough vehicle development, during which he received two world records for vehicle fuel economy, designed of nine generations of PHEVs, and was a four-time winner of USDOE Advanced Vehicle Design competitions. He holds over 30 patents, has published over 100 papers, and is an internationally recognized subject matter expert. Andy holds a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from University of Southern California, and both a bachelor's and master's degrees in mechanical engineering from the University of California, Berkeley.
Dajian Yu
Dajian has over 20 years of experience in the high technology market with a focus on the semiconductor, electronic, and IT industries. Within the venture capital community, Dajian served as Vice President of Silicon Valley China Venture Management, and as a Partner at BayHill Partners. He has also served in senior operations positions in the high tech industry including roles at General Parametrics, and Fuzhou Skyunion Digital. He has served on several boards of directors including Cadeka Technologies and Consensic International. In his business development role with EDI, Dajian is responsible for cultivating new business opportunities as the company further expands its market footprint in China.
Stuart Kaler, General Counsel, VP Patents and IP Protection
Stuart has over 20 years experience in complex, Silicon Valley high-tech intellectual property rights management and licensing, technology application, and commercial negotiations for large multinational concerns and venture-backed start-ups. He has held senior in-house IP counsel positions at Siemens and Xerox PARC, and with law firms Morrison Foerster, and Flehr, Hohbach, Test, Albritton Herbert. He holds a bachelor's degree in mathematics and physics, a master's degree in mathematics and computer science, and his J.D. from the University of Minnesota.
Jack Wang
Jack is a Principal of Jack and Fisher Investments headquartered in Shanghai, China. He is a seasoned venture capitalist focused on the areas of green and clean technology and consumer electronics. Jack joined EDI as a member of the board in September of 2014 and is exploring new vehicle and technology opportunities for EDI in China. His strong background in the high tech, manufacturing, and consumer electronics industries position him well for assisting EDI in their growing international business expansion strategy.
